The Leamington Lillies WI are a ‘next generation’, younger WI group. Like other Lite WIs we have taken the best aspects of the traditional Women’s Institute and given them a modern makeover, to make them more relevant to a younger generation of women. We are not at all ‘Jam & Jerusalem’.
Our members are typically in their 30s to 50s, but we also have younger members and some older ‘young at heart’ ladies in our group. Some of us are mums, some are career girls and some do both. With both born and bred Leamingtonians and newcomers to the area among our members, we have wide and varied backgrounds. What brings us together is our shared passion for trying new things, learning new skills and meeting new people.
We have an active and varied social calendar, including our regular evening meetings on the 2nd Thursday of each month. These include a monthly Craft Club on the 3rd Thursday of the month and a quarterly Supper Club. As the Leamington Lillies are part of the Warwickshire Federation of Women’s Institutes, our members also have the opportunity to attend events organised by the Federation.
The Leamington Lillies WI was founded in 2008 by Abi Tugwood: “The Lillies gives us events to look forward to and the chance to meet new people, learn new skills, and discover things that we would never consider on our own.”
We like to try new things at our meetings, covering a wide range of subjects including: cupcake decorating; salsa dancing; sugar craft; upcycling clothing; zumba; making Christmas wreaths; composting; and colour analysis. All our members are encouraged to suggest topics for meetings and we vote on the suggestions at our AGM in October to select what we are going to do for the coming year.
Why not come along to one of our meetings as a guest, to see what we get up to.
