This month we considered the NFWI’s resolution on Mental Health Matters. The NFWI urged all WI members to recognise the importance of parity between mental health and physical health, and take action to make it as acceptable to talk about mental health issues as much as physical health issues, and to lobby government for better support for mental illness.
To find out what we knew about mental health, all members took part in a Mental Health Stigma quiz and were surprised by some of the answers. Following a discussion, our members were asked to vote whether they were for or against the Resolution and we came out unanimously in favour. Our vote will be taken to the Annual Meeting in Cardiff on 8th June where it will be discussed further.
May 2018 also marked The Lillies WI Lite’s 10th Anniversary. To mark the occasion, one of our members, Ros, baked a beautiful cake. Following tea and a slice of the delicious cake, we played party games.
This month the Lillies learnt to hula hoop with Lyndsay from Hoopers Hoops. It turned out that some of us were naturals, some of us got the hang of it as we went along and some did not! Plenty of laughs were had along the way.
Thank you Lyndsay for a really fun evening.
We very sadly lost our long standing President, Caroline Mole, earlier this year. As some of you may know, Caroline was a keen crafter, so we decided it would be fitting to offer a bursary for a course at Denman in her memory.
All the Lillies members were eligible to enter and the winner’s name was drawn at the March meeting by Sophie from the Makery Mill. The lucky winner was Libby Kelly-Farrant. Congratulations Libby! We look forward to hearing what you do with it!
Sophie and Kelle from the Makery Mill joined us this evening to demonstrate how to do fabric decoupage. Everyone had a go at decorating their own terracotta pot using some absolutely gorgeous fabrics provided by Sophie. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
